Zentangle
Artist Statement
What my artwork represents a zentangle of an animal or sea creature and my subject matter is a white shark in the ocean with seaweed by its side. The title of my work is swimming in the puzzle. The elements that are visible is line and texture with the pattern that I used and the principles is emphasis with the shark, how it is very clear and shown over everything else and variety with the patterns used.
First i started off with ideas of what animals I liked or described me, then I chose a shark and drew it and it’s environment which is seaweed. Then I thought of patterns that described a way of how sharks are and how they describe their physical features. I then drew the patterns on the shark, using a sharpie, on its body and seaweed.
What inspired my work is personality, it’s fierce, like a shark. It expresses a personal issue such as how I see myself, how I feel, and how I’ve heard how other people perceive me as. I tried to show that I have a little bit of everything, regarding emotions and personality, how I am unique and fun as well.
My goal as an artist was to become a better free drawer and let my hand draw instead of overthinking it. This piece in fact did help develop that and made me be more creative, and express how I feel in different ways.
What I learned when creating this artwork was how to come up with patterns and being able to express myself in art work. The final piece was better than imagined and expected, way more detailed and personal. I will piece other artworks by adding more detail and a personal touch and story to it.
